Zurich Mandatory Course Package

(“ALL-IN”: online theory + practical lessons)

This course is now required by law in Canton Zurich for all first-time dog owners and anyone moving here with a dog.

It includes one theory module (2 hours) and 6 practical lessons - everything you need to meet the legal requirements and raise a well-behaved companion.

The essential first step for your puppy to grow into a confident family dog.

Safe play, new environments, and first basic skills - all in one warm and structured course.

For puppies from 8 weeks to 6 months old. Includes 3 group + 1 private lesson.

Mandatory Theory Course (online)

Mandatory for all first-time dog owners in Canton Zurich (from June 2025).


Even if you’ve had dogs before, this course will sharpen your perspective, refresh your confidence, and deepen your bond.

For first-time dog owners

CHF 250.-

    • How dogs think, learn, and communicate

    • What shapes their behavior - and how to guide it calmly

    • How to read body language and prevent problems early

    • How to handle your dog in everyday life and public places

    • What Zurich law expects from you as a dog owner

    • How to reduce stress and set your dog up for success

    + Final Exam (only if you need the official certificate for Canton Zurich)

    • Short 30-minute quiz, held in person at our Bark&Bone location in Samstagern

  • ✅ Required for the first-time owners in Canton Zürich — helpful for everyone.

    🗓 Must be completed no earlier than 1 year before and no later than 2 months after getting your dog or moving to the canton Zurich.

    Upon completion and passing the exam you will receive official certificate for Canto Zurich.

  • 🖥 Online Theory Session

    • Duration: 2.5 hours (including a 15-minute break)

    📝 Final Exam (only if you need the official certificate for Canton Zurich)

    • Short 30-minute quiz, held in person at our Bark&Bone location in Samstagern

    • Takes place every second week

    • Required by the Canton to receive your official confirmation

    • in German: Saturday 21.6.2025 at 13:00

Mandatory 6 practical lessons

CHF 390.-

For dogs >6 months old

  • Hands-on training that teaches your dog to:
    • Walk calmly on a loose leash
    • Come when called - even with distractions
    • Let go on command (“Leave it 7 Drop-it”)
    • Stay focused and connected in daily life
    • Behave calmly and confidently in public spaces

    📍 Taught in small, supportive groups with modern, force-free methods

  • At Bark & Bone, Fälmisstrasse 3b, 8833 Samstagern

    in our cozy indoor training room or outdoors in good weather.

  • ✅ Mandatory for:

    • All dog owners — regardless of breed or size — who get a dog or move with the dog to Canton Zurich on or after June 1, 2025
    • Dog owners already living in Canton Zurich whose dog is between 18 weeks and 18 months old on June 1, 2025.

    The course can be attended from the age of 6 months at the earliest and should be completed no later than one year after getting the dog.

    🐶 Of course, all other dogs are welcome too — even if it’s not mandatory. These lessons are a great foundation for any dog — no matter the age or background.

    Upon completion you will receive a certificate.

  • 60 minutes each lesson

  • Next group starts:

    Saturday 19.7 at 11:00 (and then every 2 weeks: on 2.8., 16.8., 30.8., 13.9., 27.9.)

Puppy Socialization Group Lesson

For puppies from age 8 weeks to 6 months old

    • Socializing in a safe, positive environment with other puppies & adult dogs

    • Foundations through clear signals (not commands)

    • First basics like leash walking, recall, and dropping objects

    • Building a strong relationship: eye contact, orientation, trust

    • Open Q&A to answer all your puppy-related questions
